Origanum syriacum - Za'atar Oregano

Endangered in its native Lebanon, this species inhabits the rocky mountains. This is a vitally important crop in Lebanon and the smell has the characteristic middle eastern smell. This herb is mixed with dough to form the breakfast staple MANKOUCHE. Origanum syriacum is also known as a medicinal plant for its ability to relief stomach and intestinal pain. Zaatar needs a well drained soil and full sun. Delicious!
