Salvia microphylla - Sensation
When I first read about this salvia, I thought the name was just another case of hyperbole, common in horticultural nomenclature. Now I grow the plant, I think it is very good, perhaps even sensational. The flowers are a darker orange than S. greggii pumpkin, perhaps with just a touch of pink. The orange of the flowers is enhanced by the dark brown of the stems and calyxes. It would be a worthy addition to any garden. I have found it to be a bit tougher than many of the other greggii/microphylla types I grow.
