Lomelosia cretica

Formerly known as Scabiosa cretica, This hardy plant originates in the Mediterranean basin but not actually on Crete. It is a tough little plant forming a mounded shrub to 60cm tall by about 80cm wide. In the warmer months, it is rarely without flowers. These are followed by papery seed heads which add extra interest to the plant and are a real feature in their own right. While naturally growing on rocky cliffs, it is not fussy about soil type and seems fairly adaptable.
