About Us

How we began and how we continue

Perennialle Plants was originally created in 2010 by Christopher Cuddy - a self-confessed “Plant Nerd” and lover of beautiful things. With a degree in Horticultural Science, a talented musician wife Nerida, a young family, and an abundance of faith - Chris took his knowledge and love of growing things to a small town in the central west, 4 hours from Sydney.

Canowindra is hot and dry in Summer and frosty cold in Winter - it was a total change from St Ives where Chris grew up. This new climate challenge led him to search for, grow and propagate drought and frost-tolerant plants, which he grew in a greenhouse in the backyard.

More than a dozen years down the track - Chris now has a bustling Nursery, Emporium, and Cafe with a dedicated team of 17 and a busy website and online store.

With three teenage Cuddy kids - the whole family now work in the business. Chris’ wife Nerida Cuddy bakes cakes and maintains the Perennialle Plants social media accounts  - while also pursuing a busy music career and working as a teacher.

The Perennialle Plants team is now like a big extended family. Reflecting the rural Aussie spirit and close-knit community of Canowindra - we all pitch in and help each other where and when needed. Behind the scenes heroes include long term friends with a wide range of professional experiences. Chris and Nerida attract good people to their team - their positive energy seems to attract and radiate!

The Perennialle Plants cafe crew are a vibrant bunch of lovely locals that Nerida and Chris have known since they were kids. We are proud that they have begun their working lives with us, and privileged that this business nurtures the growth of our young people.

Perennialle Plants Nursery and Emporium is a joy to visit. Plan a trip to Canowindra to browse our gorgeous range of gardening gifts, colourful and resilient plants and experience our delicious cafe menu.

The historic main street of Canowindra has been host to many film-makers and photographers. The bend of Gaskill Street follows the flow of the Belubula River, making it unusual and very photogenic. Our turn-of-the-century building was once an Exchange Stores,  Drapery, and Holden Museum.

If a road trip to the Central West of NSW is not on your agenda - our online emporium and nursery is your next best bet. We pack our hard-to-find frost and drought-tolerant perennials and shrubs with great care, and ship via Australia Post. We look forward to your visit, helping you with your purchases, and inspiring you to enjoy gardening in our challenging climate.
